Did you know grilled cheese sandwiches became popular during the Great Depression? Who would have thought the introduction of sliced bread would propel the grilled cheese to national prominence. In the 20’s the grilled cheese was an opened faced sandwich. By the 1960’s, however,  people began grilling the cheese between two slices of bread making the sandwich the favorite we know today.

There’s nothing better than a creamy, melted, gooey grilled cheese, especially one that’s made with local bread, cheese and butter. Add additional local ingredients and you have a divine treat.

When we saw the recipe for Spinach Artichoke Grilled Cheese by Alex and Sonja Overhiser from  the blog a Couple Cooks, we had to share it with you. Get out the ingredients and get cooking.

You can find the recipe here.
