As soon as the pandemic started, we knew it was time to find a good bread recipe. We needed a recipe that would work for everything from sandwiches to French toast. After trying and adapting numerous recipes, we finally came up with a recipe for Homemade Wheat Bread that works for us. We’ve been making it weekly for a year and we love it.
This recipe is quick, easy and delicious. You won’t regret giving it a try.
Homemade Wheat Bread Recipe
1 1/3 cups water heated to 110-115°
1 tbs instant yeast
Gently mix yeast into warm water, set aside for 10-15 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
Add the following to bowl of stand mixer w dough hook
2 1/4 cups bread flour
1 3/4 cups wheat flour
3 tbs extra virgin olive oil
5 tbs honey
1.5 tsp salt
Add the yeast and water mixture to the bowl.
Mix until dough comes together into a ball. Then, set timer and mix for 5 minutes.
Lightly coat a large bowl with olive oil. Add dough. Cover with a clean dish towel & let rise in warm place or on the proofing setting of your oven for 1.5-2 hours until double in size.
Butter a 9X5 bread pan to prevent sticking
Lift risen dough out of the bowl and place it into the pan, gently forming a log shape as the dough is lowered into the buttered pan.
Cover plan with clean dish towel and let rise in a warm place for 2 hours.
After an hour and a half, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Remove towel, place bread pan in oven and bake 40-45 minutes.
Cool completely before eating.
